Namche is also home to some delightful cafes and bakeries where one can enjoy some mouth-watering bakery delights, coffee, and a whole lot of stuff to shop from. They range from beautiful silver handicrafts to souvenirs and colorful felt items. The day can wear you out due to the tough uphill/downhill climbs. You can also expect some sudden changes in weather due to the altitude. You can also visit some Gumbas & chortens that tell you much about the Sherpa ways of life. It’s a gripping experience! After we’re done we can savor some lunch at Namche bazaar for the day.
Khumjung Village
Khumjung is one of the largest Sherpa villages in the Khumbu region. You will also find a few chortens and monasteries in this lively village. Khumjung is also home to the so-called legendary yeti skull which is housed in a monastery in Khumjung. The services for trekkers are not as much as you would find in Namche. However, the village does have the internet, and telephone landlines are available in this area. You can use your mobile as much as you want.
You will need to walk for an hour or so to reach Khumjung from the Everest View Hotel. Views of some of the highest mountains in the Khumbu are found in many spots in this village. Even the price of lodges in Khumjung is pretty cheap in comparison to other villages in the Everest region. You can hike slowly at a pace that’s comfortable for your body; the trail is not so difficult. There are plenty of opportunities to get deep insights into the lifestyles of the Sherpa people, their culture, and traditions in Khumjung village. The people hereabouts are very friendly, too.
There’s a lot to explore around. This includes monasteries and chortens and visiting the local schools of Khumjung village will surely see a lot of happy kids wanting to take photos with you.
